Quest Nutrition has taken the protein bar industry by storm. Started in 2010, the company has grown year after year, and many people have it as their favorite protein bar brand. So do Quest Bars live up to the hype? I’ll tell you how this brand does in terms of taste, nutritional value, and cost.
While I don’t believe taste is the top factor when choosing a brand, it’s still very important. A good bar has to taste at least decent, otherwise nobody will go out of their way to buy it. Quest Bars taste good, but a lot depends on the flavor and your individual preferences.
What is special about Quest Bars is the fact that they taste good and they still hold a high nutritional value. Most protein bars that taste great are loaded with sugar and artificial flavors. They are essentially candy bars with added protein.
Below I will review some of the most popular flavors:
There are plenty of good flavors available. Here are the ones that I personally recommend:
Apple Pie— As close to real apple pie as it gets. It’s pretty amazing how similar it tastes. This is my favorite flavor.
Vanilla Almond Crunch— My second favorite flavor, it features a mild vanilla nut taste. It’s a flavor that you won’t get tired of.
Strawberry Cheesecake— A good flavor, you can definitely taste the strawberry, but the cheesecake flavor does not really come through.
Coconut Cashew— Another good flavor, if you like coconuts then you will be sure to love it. It’s good in a variety pack, but I imagine that I would get tired of it after eating several.
Berry— This one is tasty, and Quest does a great job of blending all the fruits together.
Cinnamon Roll— This is probably the best tasting of all of the ‘desert’ flavors.
I don’t recommend any of the flavors below. In my opinion, most of the ‘desert’ flavors actually taste worse than the healthy flavors.
Chocolate Cookie— This flavor tastes pretty bad. I think they really messed this one up.
Brownie— You can taste the chocolate, but not the brownie. I would skip it.
White Chocolate Raspberry— This one just didn’t taste good.
New flavors come out all the time and it’s fun to try them out.
Every flavor is available for sale in a box of 12. So if you are new to Quest Bars then I recommend a variety pack. It’s a little more expensive per bar, but you avoid the risk of ordering a flavor that you don’t like. Click here to order a variety pack online.
The nutritional value is really what makes this brand stand out above the rest. Most store brands are loaded with bad ingredients like soy, sugar, and genetically modified ingredients (GMOs).
Quest Nutrition features a high serving of protein and fiber. The protein content is a blend of milk and whey protein isolate. There is no added sugar and instead the company uses Stevia, an all-natural sweetener. Every bar is soy free, and it’s also packed with fiber.
Every flavor has a slightly different nutritional value, but generally in one bar you will get on average 20 grams of protein, 15 grams of fiber, 21 carbs, 9 grams of fat, and 200 calories. This is good for someone on a diet, as one bar can erase your hunger. The bar won’t fill you up completely but it can satisfy mild hunger. It makes for a healthy snack and it’s also great to travel with.
This brand is fairly expensive. A pack of 12 is usually around 25 dollars, so that’s a little over $2 a bar. If you eat one a day then that costs $60 a month. But it’s tough to put a price on your health. And if you are going to buy a protein bar then there is no better brand available. Inferior brands such as Powerbar costs about the same.
Is there a way to get them cheaper? Yes, but it could take some time and patience. You can get them at the Vitamin World retail store, and use one of the store’s promotional coupons to bring the price down. But these store-wide coupons don’t come around often so you would need to be patient.
The best way to buy Quest Bars is online from Amazon because you can get free two-day shipping. You can order them on the brand’s official site, but you will need to pay at least $5 for shipping. So I recommend either buying from Amazon, or buying from a retail store close to you.
Quest Bars do indeed live up to the hype. I strongly believe that they make the best protein bars on the market— they taste good and they are packed with high-quality protein. The only downside is that they are a little expensive, but you get what you pay for. So go ahead and try one for yourself, I recommend the Apple Pie flavor.
